How Do I Choose the Best Sand Blasting Unit?

A sand blasting unit is used to clean concrete and metal surfaces. The device  works by mixing water and sand particles and  blasted it at high pressure to remove unwanted elements such as dirt, grime, paint, graffiti on the surface to  make it clean.  The cleaning results from a sandblaster are very good because of the high velocity at which sand is blasted on the surface that has to be cleaned.

In addition to cleaning, this equipment is used also for glass decoration. The cost of sandblasting equipment depends on its size and performance level. A unit that comes with a cabinet and which is capable of managing large glass particles will be more expensive than a small sand blasting system.

How to Find Sandblasting Equipment Suitable For Your Needs?

Sand blasting units are expensive so you must be prepared to shell out a handsome amount to buy one. Industrial grade sandblasting equipment is available in varying price ranges and you can buy one according to your requirement and budget limit.  Here is the checklist to identify the right sand blasting unit that will suit your requirement:

  • Check if you need a wet or a dry blaster. A wet blaster works slowly and does not cause much dust. It is suitable for use in enclosed spaces. On the other hand a dry blaster will create a lot of dust while working but will finish the job very fast.
  •  Find out the power of your air compressor because it must be able to provide the right amount of power to the sandblaster to carry out its work.  The pressure requirements of your sandblaster must match with the power capacity of your air compressor otherwise the unit will not work.
  •  Look into the equipment size and portability aspect. Small size is suitable for small areas while large sandblaster is suitable for large spaces. In case you want to move around with the machine, a backpack style will be right.
  •  The sandblasting pressure from the machine must be suitable for the work you are carrying out. In case of jobs such as removing paint and cleaning, a 3,000 to 3,500 psi or pounds per square inch is necessary.
  • If you are comfortable with a basic type of sand blaster, a gravity-fed system will be fine. On the other hand, when you need to do extensive work a more complex and expensive system is required in which case you should opt for a pressurized sand blaster.

Since there are quite a few models available, it is important to consider all the above aspects including the price before finalizing on one.  It is always best to go in for the latest equipment model so that you get the best cleaning results and safety facilities.
